Shopping For The Perfect 10

The Good Life Dietitians welcome guest blogger Glynnis Harris, a costumer designer and stylist to SA stars.

Movies have been made about it- who can forget that bronzed beauty running down the beach in a full piece (Bo Derek) - songs written about it, pencil cases have been stickered for it and women all of the world strive for it: that perfect body, the one that makes men and women swoon …You can walk into a store  - my all time favourite in London being TOP SHOP -  and put on any item and it looks just amazing, making you feel the same way.

And now for the news flash: no matter if you are that perfect 10 (it’s really an old pattern block 12) or 8 (size 10),  in Woolies you usually are not perfect underneath it all, it’s the way you see yourself that makes you so damn sexy! I recently complained about picking up some weight after losing so much that a size 34 was effortless (remember I am a mere 5.3ft so I am no rake!) Then a friend who I was complaining to over a glass or two of wine (kilojoule-riddled, of course) made a very valid point that who actually cares how much you weigh other than you?

I work in a place where weight and image is everything and it can make or break your career watch cast eat so carefully as crew stuffs their faces with bacon and eggs each morning and then we complain that we don’t look like them, do we need a scientist to explain this? So my new plan is to exchange the bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with a glass of good red (Railroad Red Graham Beck) each night, wheat is a thing of the past as it should be (rice and potatoes can stay, oats are a new desert-quite yummy with some honey!)

The new me will emerge in two months and those 34 pants will be falling off! Then I will start my new look that I have been planning for a while….I am thinking that those red cowboy boots I always wanted, well it’s time and I don’t want fakes I want the real thing, the ones that empty your pocket but fill your soul, they will be blood red(this obsession started with Footloose…)

Shopping for Cowboy boots is a really hard task…it sets apart the stylists from the fanatics (they are a seasonal item and the fakes are rife in the shops). A good pair will set you back btwn R2800 and R6000 depending where they are imported from,be still my heart from this online site! I will start with R M Williams and the cowboy store…Monte Casino has a great one!

Those boots need the perfect jeans…I have passion for Diesel jeans they just feel so good…the way they are stitched and the strong denim is worth it all, they last for years and make ones ass look mighty fine! So I reckon a pair of skinny jeans from Diesel but I am not ruling out Levis and their new range, I need an afternoon of fitting to decide, who knows maybe one of each!

Tops I have really just to admit to myself that I am a cotton shirt girl, so it will be Poetry and Old Khaki … they are feminine and last.

What would I do at night? I have an array of leather jackets, they just make me happy, my oldest is from Hilton Weiner (a black biker style) and my newest is from Mango (brown skin tight bomber) with shades and styles in between from the Oriental Plaza. I want the Alexander McQueen bomber (Izzie I am still seething with jealousy…) but R8000 is really a little extreme even for me, well maybe not but the boots come first!

In the event that I don’t make it to this new weight I have a solution for that too, as all super stars know everything can solved with self tan and spanx! Stuttafords has an array of these amazing body huggers from top to bottom in all shapes, sizes and colours…but they can get hot in the heat WARNING! So the truth still lies within its healthy glow or fake glow as long as you can have fun with it and love yourself it’s the only way anyone else is going to!

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken!”
